1.
Another grey Northern line journey You tripped as you boarded the train I caught your fall our eyes met Then it’s me who’s falling And we both knew Oh we both knew! How soon we fall together You and me we caught each other’s fall We’ll have it all together You and me we caught each other’s fall Now time flies by so quickly With never two days the same So much we’ve shared together So much pleasure with a little pain You know and I know we’d do it all again How soon we fall together…

You’re leaving on a plane today For a new career and a new life Till now I never realised What I’ve been holding deep inside If I can’t change how you feel If you feel you’ve got to move on Then I can’t stand in your way When I’m the one who got it wrong. Because I think I forgot, I think I forgot I think I forgot to say I need you Oh I think I forgot, I think I forgot I think I forgot to say I love you Oh I’m hoping that you get this message While I’m heading to the airport But If you’re gone when I get there Well I could catch the next flight And we’ll talk If I can’t change how you feel… Because I think I forgot, I think I forgot… I know you’ve got your plans I really understand that But we could work things out If you say you want me back Oh I think I forgot…

I’ve been looking so hard For what I know not Searching for something In places and spaces between them Running out of patience Ignoring the journey to somewhere Chase destinations Crowds of faces blur between them One day I found myself, by the sea at sun-rise Love stood beside me And we talked like friends not strangers As fishing boats with catch On the sea did roll before us We were still talking As the moon rose to kiss the sun goodnight I’ll be here through Spring Till the warmer tides begin I’ll be here as the grey skies turn blue We’ll simmer all summer long Till the Autumn colour’s gone Then I will light up the winter for you Next morning wrapped in sheets I hardly dared to speak I was so afraid, I was so afraid To break the sweet silence Of your bedroom We’d shared but a night But so much more than just a night The sun rose we kissed and I promised you this I’ll be here through spring…

Well it’s hard to leave a lover When you’ve never known no other Who could move someone The way that you moved me No one understood Oh I guess nobody could Why I put up with things you do to me Maybe it was only We met when you were lonely Thought I’d found someone Who made me feel brand new But your casual mistreating Turned to casual cheating And I realised I’m not enough for you The last time you hurt me is The last time you’ll hurt me The last time we play that game The last time you hurt me is The last time you’ll hurt me And I don’t want you coming round again We all need somebody But not just some body Who’ll share the bad times As well as the good Close the door behind you Take the memories I’ve given you all I could. The last time…

Paravoyeur 03:31
An apartment block Other side of the road On the second floor Someone wants a show Curtains twitch and shift Fingers probe the gap Glimpse of hands and face As the curtains are pulled back From a window across the street There’s someone watching me Wonder who you are As I watch you watching me I train binoculars On the secrets that you keep Knowledge will be power When I see who wants to see From a window… I’m using digicam Focus on your window Capture your image And a little bit of your soul From a window…

Winter, far away, time forms a distance so unfair She smiles at me, hiding an evil cold and bare And from the ground she seems to fly between the trees I cry aloud, wishing my parties could grow leaves We feel the urge now, we run between the gold and green Another time now, I saw those colours in a dream No sign, no tears, just colours in a dream So fine, so clear Changes on the ground, I’m looking up she fools around I hear a cry, we see a car that’s upside down We run away, holding my breath I close my eyes I fall asleep, how did I ever climb this high? I saw a change then, these cars are red, they should be green Another shade now, I saw those colours in a dream No sign, no tears, just colours in a dream So fine, so clear Summer far away, sun forms illusions from its glare She burns away, leaving her conscience cold and bare And from the trees, she seems to cry, she looks at me We cry aloud wishing our party could shed leaves It’s getting cold now But the snow is warm and coloured cream Another sleep now, I saw those colours in a dream No sign, no fears, just colours in a dream So fine, so clear

Butterfly 03:20
Another bad night in my ship of dreams Chasing dark shadows From the corners of my eyes It’s like a moth fluttering in my brain My mind gives up on a battle it can’t win I descend the stairs Oh so sleepy I might fall In this half-light of dawn Throwing patterns in my hall Sometimes thinking feels like I’m sinking In a river bed I thought was dry (x2) Draw back the blinds Oh so tired and on edge In the golden light of morning A butterfly on the window ledge I hold it in my hands Nervous I might hurt its wings Outside my hands unfold See how my butterfly he soars Sometimes thinking feels like sinking In a river bed I thought was dry Sometimes thinking feels like sinking Wish I could feel like a butterfly (x2)

Sad Garden 03:25
Blossom grows on these trees so fragile which overladen falls Feel the chill wind blow Now that spring is here, time and tide have changed New scents ride the wind Feel the chill wind blow Cold like winter snow Cold like desert nights Cold like ocean floors How can this be Spring when this chill wind blows? Ornamental lakes, perfect aqua blue Reflect me and you I will dance for you Trees in miniature, grass like emerald, frame one geisha still I will dance for you Steps from memory Ones that we rehearsed When we danced as two In this garden sad I will dance for you Once you sang for me now all that remains Is a sad refrain I will sing for you Feel the rhythm of songs this garden new Hanging in the trees I will sing for you Words in shades of blue Sounds that hollow ring Chords that once were you Notes no longer true I will sing for you

You left our home town For University You said important things Are measured by degrees Melanie’s destiny Is something very special Melanie’s destiny Will not be superficial Melanie’s destiny Does not align with me I heard you met someone On a gap year overseas Two star-crossed lovers Working for charity Melanie’s… I missed your homecoming I wasn’t there to see How you’d unravelled From your addictive needs Melanie’s…

Care Of 05:16
I wrote to Robert, care of the Angels An address that’s sometimes close to me You left us in the nineteen seventies Didn’t even get to see your twenties If you were still here like you should have been Oh my friend all the things you would have seen Robert Dear Robert Dear Paul Dear Jane I’m just writing to say I’d love to see you all again Paul I can hear you, jam with the Angels In a place that sounds so close to me You play piano and flute in your velvet suit Then blowing cool sax in your daddy’s Big Band Paul though I can’t touch you no more Your melodies touch me like before Robert… Jane you’ve been charming all the Angels That’s not hard for you to do Pretty and clever with a wit so keen Gone for so long and so sadly missed Jane what would you have been A prophet? a poet? a beauty queen? Or something else? Robert…

Once upon a summer, seems like only yesterday On the beach at night, boys and girls come out to play Silhouettes in fire-light, as they dance the night away Oh oh oh - oh oh oh oh oh Slip into a beach-hut, passion’s pulling hard then Susie got it on, with her sister’s boy-friend She thought it was serious, so it was till summer’s end Oh oh oh - oh oh oh oh This was our time - our never ending summer This was our time – our never ending summer This was our time – our never ending summer This was our time – our never ending summer The party’s in full swing, intoxicated attitudes Fight comes out of nowhere, someone in a wet-suit Tripped over a couple, coupling in the sand dunes Oh oh oh – Oh oh oh oh oh This was our time Sometimes when I close my eyes I feel the sea-wind blow and I sigh Sometimes when I close my eyes I still hear the laughter and I could cry Gary wheel-span in the sand, drove his car onto the beach So we dug it free, saved it from the morning sea The fire’s nearly out, everybody falls asleep Oh oh oh – oh oh oh oh oh Chorus This was our time – this was our time x 2 Oh what a summer! x 3

about

Trans-Genre Express is the second album from Sun-Pinned Leaves. Following on from 2019's Theories of Destiny, this new album takes the listener on a Sonic journey of 11 self-penned tracks all inspired by the band's broad influences. There features an early and obvious nod to David Bowie after which the songs take inspiration from Pop, Rock, Soul, Jazz, UK Punk, US Punk, Synth Pop and Funk.

With such a journey across a multitude of genres the album title was inevitable.
